Bacardi

Bacardi

On February 4, 1862, the Bacardi family, led by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó, bought a distillery in Santiago de Cuba. What was unique about them was that they discarded the rulebooks and created their own unique blends, laying the groundwork for a true revolution in high-quality Cuban rums that changed production methods forever.

The Freedom Fighter

Emilio Bacardí Moreau loved two things: rum and his country. He risked his life fighting for Cuba's independence and despite numerous arrests, imprisonments, and exile, he never gave up on his ideals. His courage was rewarded upon his return when he became the first freely elected mayor of Santiago de Cuba.

The bat

In Cuba, bats are considered a symbol of good luck. When Doña Amalia Bacardí spotted one in the distillery, she insisted that every bottle of the family rum feature a bat, and thus they became a symbol of the brand.

The hosts of the party

In 1919, the sale of alcohol in the US was prohibited. For this reason, the party moved to Cuba, where the Bacardi family became world-famous for the parties they organized, which would last all weekend.
