Step into our distillery at Laverstoke Mill in Hampshire, England, and discover the secrets behind our world-renowned gin.
Bombay Sapphire is a world-renowned London Dry Gin brand, originating in the distant year of 1985.
Its name comes from the popularity of gin in India during the British Raj. The sapphire is the violet-blue gemstone, the Star of Bombay, which is mined in Sri Lanka and displayed in the Smithsonian Museum.
Bombay Sapphire comes in a sapphire-colored bottle, and Queen Victoria is depicted on the label.
The alcohol content of this London Dry Gin is 47%.
Crafting the highest quality gin demands the highest quality raw materials. During distillation, we employ up to 12 precious botanicals, suspended above the spirit in perforated copper baskets. This way, as the heated vapors rise, they are gently infused with all the rich aromatic flavors our botanicals release.
While ordinary gins boil their botanicals directly in the spirit to achieve their flavour, the wonderfully distinctive taste of our gin is created through the vapour infusion process. We still use our original Carterhead stills – Tom and Mary – from the 1830s, but we've now added two modern 12,000-litre copper stills – Henry and Victoria.
From the heat of our Moroccan Cubeb Berries to the spice of our West African Grains of Paradise, each of our 10 precious botanicals are chosen to bring their own special something to our gin. Uniquely distilled, they come together to give Bombay Sapphire its alluring, smooth and complex taste.
