Bratanov

Boutique wines from Southern Sakar – this is what Bratanov Winery produces. If you haven't tasted them yet, it's time to enjoy their authentic tastes and aromas.

Bratanov Winery – A Dream Come True

Bratanov Winery is a family project that unites the efforts of a father and his two sons. The Southern Sakar region has ancient winemaking traditions, and this is precisely one of the families that have been cultivating and processing vineyards for many years. However, production had been interrupted for more than 50 years, but the Bratanov family decided to revive the family business.

Between 2006 and 2008, they gradually planted the vineyards, and in 2010, they opened Bratanov Winery.

Varieties and Blends

Bratanov's wines reflect the sunny character of Southern Sakar. The winemaking family is convinced that the quality of the grapes is the most important factor for obtaining a good final product. Therefore, they match the varieties to the characteristics of the terroir and strive to build a strong connection between the land, the vines, the varieties, and generations of winemakers. The symbiosis between all factors that contribute to obtaining an excellent drink gives the name to Bratanov's first series of wines: Symbiose.

In 2013, Bratanov Winery succeeded in reviving the production of the Tamyanka variety, which has since been used by more and more wineries in Bulgaria, and its popularity has spread beyond Bulgaria. From the first harvest, the aromatic Tamianka Single Vineyard was created, which is part of the Single Vineyard series, based only on local varieties.

Another very successful series of the brand is South Sakar Selection. Popular from this series are the red blend of Merlot and Syrah, Chardonnay Sur Lie, as well as the Syrah Sans Barrique varieties.

Among the winery's prides is their highest class of beverages, Private Reserve – blends of wines aged at least two years in selected barrels. From this series is also one of the top 10 wines in DiVino magazine in 2016, Merlot Private Reserve.

A customer favorite is also the young Merlot from Shishmanovo, which in 2017 won the audience award at the Young Wine Parade in Plovdiv.

Terms and Conditions

The terroir of Southern Sakar is extremely favorable for winemaking. The vineyards of Bratanov winery are located near the village of Shishmanovo, not far from Harmanli. The mountain hills are exceptionally sunny, and thanks to the nearby Maritsa River, winds from the Aegean Sea penetrate here. Thanks to them, the warm and dry climate here is remarkably reminiscent of the Mediterranean. The soils are diverse and fertile. It is no coincidence that winemaking traditions date back to the time of the ancient Thracians.

Winery development

Bratanov Winery's concept is to produce high-quality wine, building upon local traditions while also utilizing modern technological capabilities. However, technological intervention is minimal – the focus is primarily on artisanal approaches, and the beverages age in classic oak barrels. In 2015, enologist Maria Stoeva, a graduate of Dijon, France, joined the project.
