Within the broad Côtes-de-Provence appellation, rosés from La Londe-Les-Maures are recognized as being among the best with a distinctive terroir with tough production conditions.
Château des Bormettes is located in pristine 140 hectares of forest, just 900 meters from the Mediterranean Sea. It is centered on Pic Saint-Martin at 120 meters above sea level, an area with an agricultural history dating back to Gallo-Roman times where archives attest to a vineyard in the 14th century, but it really saw its rise from 1588 with the arrival of the Monks of Chartreuse de la Verne. Prone to prolonged droughts, the land is dominated by maquis vegetation on very poor, rocky soils made up mainly of silica and crystalline quartz-instead of limestone, as in many Côtes de Provence. Marine influences also make this area particularly dry, but more temperate.
Château Des Bormettes has been a family winery since the early 20th century. Fabrice Faré has resolutely resisted urban development, restoring on-site bottling at the château in 2010, focusing on quality and strictly using gentle practices in the vineyard. The plantings are dominated by Cinsault, Grenache and Rolle with additions of Syrah, Carignan, Clairette, Ugni, Mourvèdre. Recognized nationally, international recognition came in 2016 when Instinct Parcellaire Rosé ranked 3rd in Decanter's competition for the best rosés from around the world for 2016.
