Claus Preisinger has been making wine on the northern shore of Lake Neusiedl in Gols, Burgenland, since 2002. In 2006, he converted his vineyards and cellar to biodynamic production and is certified by Respekt Biodyn. Claus mostly uses local grape varieties such as Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Grüner Veltliner, and St. Laurent, complemented by Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc from both the western and eastern sides of Lake Neusiedl. Claus does not use cultivated yeast and very little, if any, sulfites. He ages many of his wines in amphorae rather than wooden barrels, which he sees as a conscious step backward, a return to the fundamentals – the grapes and the soil. Reduction, minimalism, and a free spirit are Claus Preisinger's guiding themes.
