Libera Estate

Libera Estate

Our goal is to reveal the true face of Bulgarian wine by combining local centuries-old traditions with the modern vision of our team.

Libera Estate is a new project on Bulgaria's wine map. Wines under the Libera brand were first vinified in 2013. The focus was primarily on local and a few international grape varieties. This approach continued until early 2017, when we decided to expand our wine portfolio.

Our vineyards cover more than 350 decares (86 acres) in the lands of the villages Hotovo, Lozenitsa, and Zornitsa. We are located 9 km from Sandanski and 6 km from Melnik, in an area steeped in history and wine.

The vineyards are 25 years old, which makes them very resilient, and every year we transform their high-quality harvest into a bottle of wine.

Vineyard

Our sun-drenched vineyards are located in the lands of the villages Hotovo, Lozenitsa, and Zornitsa and span over 350 decares. Indigenous Bulgarian varieties such as Melnik 55, Melnik 82, and Shiroka Melnishka Loza for reds, and Sandanski Misket and Dimyat for whites, hold an important place. Among international varieties, we lovingly cultivate Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah.

Terroir

The Struma River Valley is an exceptionally interesting terroir, characterized by mild winters and hot summers, and the mountains that surround us are an important factor and also determine the character of our wines.

Climate

The hot summer and mild winter, combined with soil analyses in the area, provide a good prerequisite for making excellent terroir wines, and the comparison to Tuscany in Italy is by no means unfounded.

When we talk about the famous wines from the Melnik region, we cannot help but mention the local varieties that can only be found here – Melnik 55, Shiroka Melnishka Loza, Melnik 82, and Sandanski Misket. They are and will continue to be a leading motif in Libera Estate's wines.
