Winery Mayer am Pfarrplatz, an epitome of Viennese culture, boasts centuries of tradition, crafting the finest Viennese wines in Heiligenstadt since 1683. The vineyards are located entirely within the city limits of Vienna, in the 17th and 19th districts. As a member of Österreichische Traditionsweingüter (ÖTW) since 2018, the winery has set a clear goal of acquiring the best vineyards in Vienna to produce particularly distinctive, fine, and long-lasting wines. Vineyard classification is a seal of quality for vineyards that have produced great wines for decades thanks to their mature vines, soil structure, exposure, altitude, and microclimate.
Old vines were planted by previous generations. Stony marble soils with a lot of limestone, formed 3 million years ago, and more than 100 different mini-vineyards with significantly different soil formations. Warm winds flow in from the Pannonian plains, counteracting the cooling influence of the Vienna Woods and the Danube River. All these unique factors produce great wines.
