Climate

The combination of climatic and soil conditions in Mogilovo is remarkable. What makes the micro-region and terroir unique is the large temperature amplitude. Both an advantage and a disadvantage for viticulture, the difference between day and night temperatures can reach 20°C. And although a prerequisite for spring frosts on the vines, the large amplitudes in Midalidare are considered a gift of nature. A blessing that ensures the optimal acid content in the grapes and is a necessary condition for the unique style and exceptional aging potential of the wines. The altitude of the vineyards in Midalidare ranges from 320 to 390 meters. The climate is characterized by mild winters and hot summers. Annual rainfall in the region is about 550 mm, and the average January temperature is above 0ºС. The vineyards benefit from more than 2800 hours of sunshine annually and over 100 clear days a year. Temperature amplitudes are large and often create conditions for frosts.

Vineyards

At Midalidare, there is no compromise on the quality of the wines. Therefore, the planting and cultivation of the vineyards is preceded by a detailed study of the climate and soil composition of the land. Only grape varieties suitable for the specific conditions and terroir are grown on the estate, and their development is carefully monitored over the years with the clear goal of mastering all nuances and creating wines with exceptional character. Each variety has carefully selected clones and rootstocks, and the overall management of the vineyards is aimed at extracting the best from the land available to Midalidare. The red grape varieties grown in Midalidare include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot, and Pinot Meunier. The white varieties grown are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Traminer, Sémillon, and Viognier. All grape varieties grown in Midalidare are available for guests of the estate in the Variety Library, part of the Wine Tour.

Terroir

Terroir is of utmost importance for the character and quality of wine. But viticulture also plays a huge role. Wine is made in the vineyard: this is Midalidare's philosophy. That's why vineyard care comes first. The land of Mogilovo village is a true paradise for viticulture. The soil cover is extremely diverse due to the different soil-forming rock substrate in the individual zones of the area. The variety of cinnamon forest and alluvial soils (in the lower layers), limestones, sandy and clayey rows, and the magnificent red clay of the Dabovets vineyard mass are an additional prerequisite for the varietal diversity in Midalidare's vineyard estate.
