Pink Pelican

Pink Pelican

Once upon a time... Yes, that's how all fairy tales with happy endings begin, but we have a different story that doesn't start like a fairy tale and definitely has no end!

A small winery founded by two brothers. Young, ambitious, and with fresh ideas. Sounds great, doesn't it? And you haven't even tasted their wines yet! See what "Pink Pelican" has to offer us!

The Tale of "Pink Pelican"

The brothers we're telling you about are Mario and Boyan from Silistra. They grew up in a family of winemakers – their parents own a small winery that produces wine from the Danubian Plain. But they decided to start their own story. It began just a few years ago.

In 2016, when one had just graduated in Sofia, and the other had a little more to go until he completed his coursework in "Wine and Beer Technology" at the Plovdiv University of Food Technologies, the two decided to launch their own project.

But what field should it be in? They wanted it to be something valuable not only for their development as entrepreneurs and professionals but also for their homeland. They love their city and want people in Bulgaria to learn more about it.

And the decision was logical. Winemaking is the field they know, and it's also a way to continue the family tradition. Furthermore, the ancient drink has been produced for centuries south of the Danube. It is not just a beverage, but also a culture, a symbol, a bridge between centuries and regions. When you drink it, watching the sunset over the Danube, it tells you about the past of these lands, about the Dobrujan people, about the Old Bulgarian fortress Drastar, about the Roman city Durostorum.

And in 2017, Mario and Boyan started their business – with technological help from the family and with a lot of enthusiasm. From their parents, they adopted not only knowledge of the technology and practice of the process but also the understanding that to succeed in an endeavor, you must burn for it – to dedicate yourself to the work with all your love.

What's behind the name?

"Pink Pelican" comes from the name of the beautiful pink birds found in Bulgaria only near Silistra, in the UNESCO-protected reserve. And since Mario and Boyan carefully considered their entire concept, the debut series of craft wines from the "Pink Pelican" winery is named after the protected reserve "Srebarna."
