Salla Estate
Salla Estate Winery was established in 2010. It is located in the village of Blaskovo, Provadiya municipality. The village is situated in the heart of the famous Provadiya plateau, Sarta, just 60 km from the city of Varna. Near the village stands the naturally protected medieval fortress of Muhaliysko Kale, in whose sheer cliffs is carved the Rock Monastery, dating from the 12th – 14th centuries, and in the Tupana cave, inhabited since the Stone Age, every strike produces an echo like the sound of a drum.
During the land preparation before planting new vineyards, Greek and Roman coins from Moesia and Thrace, fragments of clay vessels and ceramics, dating from the 4th century BC to the 19th century, were discovered in the area, testifying to the existence of a large wine market.
The wines are made with state-of-the-art equipment and applying the latest modern trends – without any compromise on quality.
Vinification
White wine is made from the Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer and Vrachanski misket grape varieties. Red wine is made from the Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir grape varieties. Rosé wine is made from Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir grapes, using the white wine production method. The grapes are hand-picked into 10-12 kg crates and immediately transported to the winery.
Terroir
Grapes are grown in 300 decares of own vineyards, located directly next to the winery, on a southwest-facing slope. The terrain is hilly, and the area combines unique natural conditions – a combination of suitable soil, relief, and climate. The planting material is from the French company "Guillaume" and includes the elite white varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer, Riesling, the attractive red varieties Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and the local Bulgarian variety Vrachanski Misket.
Climate
The climate is transitional continental. The annual sunshine duration is 2172 hours, with 1526 hours during the growing season (from April 1st to September 30th). The annual temperature sum is 3100 – 3700°C. The soils are represented by carbonate sandy-clay deposits. They are characterized by good aeration, water permeability, and water retention capacity.
