Description
Nikolaihof in Mautern, Wachau, has a history spanning some two thousand years. It was once a Celtic cult site, part of a Roman fortress, a bishopric, and an administrative seat. The cellar is the oldest winery in Austria. The Saahs family has owned Nikolaihof for 125 years and were absolute pioneers in biodynamic farming in 1971. Riesling and Grüner Veltliner are primarily grown on 22 hectares according to Demeter's strict biodynamic guidelines. The wines are fermented with their own yeasts and stored in large, old oak barrels in the historic Roman wine cellar for up to 20 years.
Biodynamically produced white wine from Austria's oldest winery, Nikolaihof. This wine is made from Chardonnay from various vineyards on the estate. A classic light Chardonnay in the Wachau style with no oak notes. Matured for 6 months in a large, old oak barrel.
The bouquet features notes of nuts, apples, pears, and quinces, while fresh almonds and white flowers are added to the taste.
