Description

Nikolaihof in Mautern, Wachau, has a history spanning some two thousand years. It was once a Celtic cult site, part of a Roman fortress, a bishopric, and an administrative seat. The winery is the oldest in Austria. The Saahs family has owned Nikolaihof for 125 years and was an absolute pioneer in biodynamic farming in 1971. Riesling and Grüner Veltliner are primarily grown on 22 hectares following strict Demeter biodynamic guidelines. The wines ferment on their own yeasts and are stored in large, old oak barrels in the historic Roman wine cellar for up to 20 years.

Bottled after 6 months of aging in large oak barrels. A classic expression of Riesling from the Wachau region.
