THE BALVENIE FRENCH OAK is a distinctive malt that finishes (matures for a short period) in casks that previously held wine from French Charentes vines. Pineau des Charentes is a fortified wine, based on unfermented grape juice, to which cognac is added and subsequently left to age. The Balvenie's American brand ambassador, Lorne Cason, after a trip to France where he first tasted this traditional regional aperitif, suggested to Master Distiller David Stewart to experiment with Pineau de Charentes casks. This is how the distinctive The Balvenie French Oak was born – with a unique taste profile, reminiscent of French vineyards, luxurious cognac. Taste profile: 1/ The initial maturation in American oak casks imparts rich vanilla taste notes, enveloped in delicate honey sweetness. 2/ Finishing in Pineau casks adds refreshing notes of grapefruit, geranium, glazed fruits, and ginger.
