Barolo DOCG 2017, Pio Cesare 0.75
This historic family estate is named after its founder Cesare Pio, who established the business in 1881. The winery is based in Alba, in the heart of Piedmont. Pio Cesare developed Barolo's reputation abroad in the 1950s, being one of the first producers to export the wine to the United Kingdom.
Pio Cesare Barolo is made from vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba (Ornato, La Serra and Bricolina), Grinzane Cavour (Gustava and Garetti), La Morra (Roncaglie), Novello (Ravera), and from the 2015 vintage, the recently acquired vineyard in Monforte (Mosconi). This wine has always been traditionally produced by the Cesare family with grapes coming from various sub-regions. This is the classic "formula" used by the ancient Barolo families to produce a wine that encompasses and combines each of the unique characteristics of the different vineyards and terroirs in the Barolo area. A classic Barolo style. Excellent structure, harmony, and elegance. Soft tannins and balanced fruit. Approachable, yet with a very long aging potential. Aging is 30 months in French oak barrels.
Delicate ruby red color with a garnet hue. Elegant, fruity, and mineral aromas, with notes of red fruit jam, humus, cherries, citrus peel, and balsamic herbs. The taste is smooth, intense, and powerful, characterized by freshness and structured, powerful tannins. A classic Barolo for long aging.
