Description
The history of the estate is primarily a history of families, heritage, and transmissions generation after generation. The first known mention of Issan dates back to the 12th century. At that time, the property was a feudal domain with the name La Mothe-Cantenac, before becoming the Théobon estate.
Château d'Issan did not need the famous 1855 classification, which distinguished it as a 3rd Grand Cru Classé, to establish its reputation. This was done as early as the 12th century when it was reportedly served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry Plantagenet, the future King of England.
Blason d'Issan, our second wine, was introduced from 1995 onwards to allow for a selection among our vines growing in the Margaux appellation area.
The wine is aged in barrels for 14 to 16 months, one-third of which are new. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 40% and Merlot 60%.
