At that time, they selected Sangiovese clones better adapted to the production of high-quality grapes and first-class wines. Today, the winery is managed by Leopoldo Franceschi and his wife Livia.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTenuta Il Poggione is one of the largest estates in Montalcino, covering an area of 600 hectares, of which 125 hectares are planted with vines. The new winery, built in 2004, allows for modern winemaking processes, using the most modern technologies and equipment. Sangiovese grapes are carefully selected in the vineyard, with only healthy and the ripest fruits brought to Tenuta's wines each passing year. For aging its red wines, Il Poggione uses large French oak barrels, which are kept five meters underground.
