Carmes de Rieussec Sauternes 2019, 0.375
Château Rieussec's second wine is selected according to the same standards as the first wine. Its character consistently reveals a beautiful aromatic range dominated by citrus aromas. The name Carmes de Rieussec is a reference to the Carmelite monks of Langon who, in the 18th century, owned the Rieussec estate, located on the border of the Fargues and Sauternes communes. Passed down through various families, in 1984 it was acquired by the Rothschild barons, one of the most aristocratic families associated with the world of wine, who already owned the famous Château Lafite.
Today, Château Rieussec cultivates the three emblematic Sauternes grape varieties - Semillon, Sauvignon, and Muscadelle - carefully following traditional techniques, both in the vineyard and in the winery: the result of this commitment leads to the creation of rich, deep, and full-bodied wines that captivate and charm from the first sip, thanks to the wide variety of organoleptic characteristics expressed in the glass.
Semillon 84%, Sauvignon Blanc 12%, Muscadelle 4%. After harvesting, the grapes arriving at the winery are immediately pressed and vinified separately by parcel. The must is then transferred to barrels to begin fermentation. Once fermentation is complete, the lees are regularly stirred until mid-December. After a period of rest, the wine is racked and blended before further aging in barrels for approximately 12 months.
