Château Canon 1st Grand Cru Classé B 2012, 0.75
Château Canon is an estate classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classe "B," located on the limestone plateau of Saint Emilion. It is considered one of the most elegant wines in the appellation and performs particularly well in warmer vintages. It also has an excellent reputation as one of the best value wineries in the region. Jacques Canon purchased the property in 1760 and expanded the vineyard and estate before selling it to Bordeaux wine merchant Raymond Fontémoing just ten years later. The property remained in the family, with Fontémoing's great-granddaughter changing the name from Kanon to Château Canon in 1853. After CHANEL acquired the property in 1996, the 18th-century château was restored. CHANEL also owns Château Rauzan-Segla in Margaux. Under the direction of viticulturist John Kolasa, a significant portion of the vineyards has been replanted over the past 20 years, and in the last 5 years, the quality of the wines has improved significantly as higher-density plantings have been incorporated into the blend. Nicolas Audebert (formerly of Cheval des Andes) worked alongside John Kolasa before taking control in 2015.
