Château Cheval Blanc 1st Grand Cru Classé A 2012, 0.75
Château Cheval Blanc, classified as 1er Grand Cru Classé (A), is undoubtedly the leading estate in Saint-Émilion. It is located in the northwestern part of the Saint-Émilion appellation, bordering Pomerol. Cheval Blanc produces the world's most famous Cabernet Franc-based wine, and the current winemaker, Pierre Lurton, is among the most talented winemakers working in Bordeaux today. It is one of only four wineries in Saint-Émilion to hold the Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" status, alongside Château Angélus, Château Ausone, and Château Pavie. Château Cheval Blanc produces the world's most famous Cabernet Franc-based wine and is a benchmark for the best that can be achieved with this grape. The history of Château Cheval Blanc began in the 1830s when the Ducasse family purchased a plot and vineyards from Château Figeac. This land, along with several other plots acquired from other wineries, eventually became the Cheval Blanc estate we know today. The historic Château was built in the late 19th century and is now recognized as one of the most beautiful and classic examples of wine architecture in Bordeaux. In 2011, the renowned architect Christian de Portzamparc led the renovation of the estate's facilities, including a state-of-the-art winery, barrel cellars, a vinification hall, and a tasting area, making Cheval Blanc the envy of all other estates in Bordeaux.
