Description

Château Cos d'Estournel is named after its 19th-century owner Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, who built the whimsical oriental edifice that is a landmark for any tourist in Médoc. Today, Cos d'Estournel is undoubtedly the leading estate in Saint-Estèphe. It is located in the southern part of the appellation, bordering Pauillac, and its vineyards are situated on a south-facing ridge with high clay content, north of Lafite.

Typically, Cos d'Estournel is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc – don't be fooled by the relatively high Merlot content, as these are full-bodied, dark, brooding tannic wines that, in their youth, develop a complexity and intensity that can rival many of the best wines from Pauillac.
