Description

Chateau d'Yquem is often described as the best sweet wine in the world. After centuries of family management, in 1999 Yquem was sold to Louis Vuitton-Moët-Hennessy. However, former owner and director Alexandre de Lur-Saluces remained at the head of the company. Yquem is located on the highest hill in Sauternes and enjoys the best growing conditions in the entire appellation. The 110-hectare vineyard is planted with 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. 150 highly skilled workers hand-pick only fully botrytized grapes, and yields are so low that only one glass of wine is produced per vine.

Yquem ferments in oak barrels (100% new) and is left to age in barriques for up to 36 months. Intense and opulent when young, Yquem develops exceptional complexity and exotic richness when fully mature, with the best vintages lasting over 50 years. Château d’Yquem is classified as 1er Cru Classé supérieur.
