Description
The history of Chateau Gazin dates back to 1772, when the vineyards in Pomerol were purchased by Antoine Feuillade. The estate was not always a vineyard. In fact, before the vineyard appeared, the property was used for various activities, including as a hospital. The vineyard of the historic Château Gazin covers an area of 26 hectares, located on the high terrace of the Pomerol terroir. Château Gazin is located in the eastern part of the Pomerol plateau, where the soils are rich in clay and limestone. The vineyard is large by Pomerol standards and borders the vineyards of L`Evangile and Pétrus. The wine is a blend of Merlot (80%), Cabernet Franc (15%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). The grapes are vinified in a traditional way, and the wine ages in oak barrels (50% new) for 15-18 months.
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Gazin smells of baked plums, Christmas cake, mincemeat, and plum preserves with hints of chocolate box, coffee, tapenade, and smoked meats. Medium to full-bodied, with a mouth-filling richness of baked fruits and savory layers, it has firm, chewy tannins and a long finish.
