In terms of quality, the estate often surpasses higher-classified wineries, and the chateau is known for its consistency. The wine is exceptionally complex and stylistically reminiscent of the best Bordeaux wines, and today it is managed by visionary enologist Caroline Frey. Château La Lagune is known for making intense and well-structured wines with a long life. The La Lagune vineyard is planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot. The large 90-hectare vineyard of Château La Lagune typically has 85 hectares of planted vines, with 5 hectares often awaiting replanting. The vineyard has a terroir of gravelly and sandy soils. However, the estate is much larger, covering 150 hectares. Much of this land is forested with green parks and woodlands.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOver the years, the chateau has been innovative; in 1964, it was the first Cru Classé estate to appoint a woman as manager - the late Jeanne Boyrie. Recently, its wines have once again taken their rightful place among the best in the region. The 2016 wine is dark ruby, and its first sniff reveals a huge fruit explosion, with a pleasant, fleshy nose dotted with forest berries like blackberries. The palate is fresh, with a pleasant high acidity and a finish filled with elegance.
