Description

The 63-hectare Chateau Maucaillou vineyard on the Left Bank has a gravel-based terroir. The vineyard is planted with 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested using a combination of machine harvesting and hand-picking. The wines are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in tanks. Before bottling, the wines are aged for an average of 18 months in approximately 60% new French oak barrels. There is also a second wine, Le No 2 de Maucaillou. There is also a third wine, Maucaillou Haut Medoc. Production of Chateau Maucaillou is large, at nearly 36,000 cases of wine per vintage.
