Château Pape Clément Grand Cru Classé 2016, 0.75
Château Pape Clément is a property classified as Grand Cru Classé de Graves, which has one of the oldest documented histories in Bordeaux, with the first vineyards planted in 1300 by Bernard de Goth, the future Pope Clement V. In 1939, the estate was bought by the Montagne family and is now owned and managed by Léo Montagne. Château Pape Clément produces some of the best wines in Pessac-Léognan. Château Pape Clément is located in the suburb of Pessac, Bordeaux, and consists of the château and 32 hectares of vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (40%) and small quantities of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle. The quality of the wines at Château Pape Clément declined in the 1960s and 1970s, largely due to insufficient investment. Bernard Magrez was appointed general manager in 1985, and he restored Pape Clément's fortunes. He introduced stricter selection in the vineyards, as well as installing stainless steel fermenters and increasing the percentage of new oak barrels used in the aging process.
