Chateau Talbot 4th Growth 2016 Double Magnum, 3
Château Talbot is one of the most famous Bordeaux estates for the British public, which is not surprising, as it takes its name from John Talbot, the Earl of Shrewsbury, who in 1453 suffered the ignominious loss of the battle and with it his life, which allowed Bordeaux and its vineyards to return to French control after having belonged to the British Crown for more than 340 years. For the past century, the vineyards have been owned by the Cordier family, and the estate's red wine has long enjoyed a reputation for reliability. It is one of the largest estates in the Médoc, and its single 102-hectare vineyard is located inland from the Gironde River and west of the hamlet of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle.
The red wine from Talbot is typically a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (66%), Merlot (26%), Cabernet Franc (3%), and Petit Verdot (5%) - vinification includes 18 months of aging in small oak barriques (50% new). Talbot has a reputation for consistency and is one of the most carefully made and reliable Claret from Saint-Julien Cru Classé. The best examples are richly aromatic, with a cedar and vanilla bouquet, a hint of blackcurrant, and a palate full of well-defined, ripe, black fruit and finely integrated tannins. It is classified as 4ème Cru Classé.
