Description
Méo-Camuzet is one of the most famous domaines of the Côte d'Or, located in the heart of the prestigious Vosne-Romanée region. The domaine boasts fourteen hectares of land across some of Burgundy's most impressive appellations. Burgundy's vineyards are highly fragmented among families, making it rare for anyone to possess enough vines to bottle a single Grand Cru, let alone the six that Méo holds. The founder, Etienne Camuzet, was not only a passionate vigneron but also a full-time politician, spending most of his time in Paris representing the Côte d'Or. To maintain his land, he offered it to capable tenants to cultivate. By the time his daughter inherited the estate, she had no heirs, so the estate passed to her closest relative, Jean Méo, who also pursued politics: he was a cabinet member for Charles De Gaulle. Jean's son Jean-Nicolas took over management in 1985.
At first glance, Perrieres presents the typical Corton, described abundantly: austere, long, tannic. This impression must be qualified, for the wine appears to have many facets: it is certainly straightforward, but with an underlying structure and a finish marked by minerality. There is no heaviness, which facilitates the expression of complexity. Long cellar aging is certainly beneficial.
