Description

The 2020 Couvent des Jacobins stands out with aromas of minty blackberries, plums, incense, and rose petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, dense, and charming palate framed by powdery tannins. A gourmet, seamless wine that offers a wide drinking window. This is a blend of Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.

Couvent des Jacobins, as its name suggests, is located on the site of an ancient Dominican monastery founded in the 14th century. Since 1996, Denis Pomarède has been the director of the winery, overseeing 10.5 hectares of vineyards, many of which are situated on the Villemaurine plateau behind the winery itself, with shallow clay over limestone. However, there is also a plot of Petit Verdot planted near Fonroque, and another near Grand Mayne and Coutet on sandy clay. Couvent des Jacobins has been organically farmed since 2010 and received its certification in 2020.
