Description

Established in 1808, M. Chapoutier winery's seven generations have contributed to building one of the finest wineries in the Rhône Valley. Year after year, the producer expanded its vineyards in the Rhône Valley while diversifying its production with wines from the region's best appellations such as Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Ardèche, Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Banyuls and Roussillon. Today, M. Chapoutier is the largest landowner in the Hermitage appellation.

L'Ermite Rouge, a very rare wine (around 375 bottles per year), produced from 9.5 acres at the top of the Hermitage hill, is an intense Syrah with massive tannins. The elevated position of the vineyard, over 200 meters, allows for prolonged ripening at the end of the growing season, and its loess soils provide excellent drainage of rainwater. The average age of the vines is over 80 years, and they are pruned to very low yields.
