Gaja Barbaresco DOP 2017, 0.75
The jewel in the crown of Italian winemaking, the Gaja winery, was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja in the Barbaresco region (Piedmont, Italy). Today, Gaja is owned and managed by the fifth generation of the family, having built a tradition of unwavering dedication to achieving uncompromising quality over the years. Thanks to Barbaresco, the winery's flagship, Gaja wines took leading positions in Italy in the early 20th century. In 1961, Angelo (Giovanni's great-grandson) joined the winery, skillfully combining the preservation of the Langhe region's traditions with daring innovative solutions - both in the vineyards and in the cellars themselves. Angelo was also the first to introduce the wonderful Gaja wines to international markets. Today, the winery owns 250 decares of vineyards in the Barbaresco (Barbaresco and Treiso) and Barolo (Serralunga d'Alba and La Morra) areas, as well as in Tuscany (Pieve Santa Restituta in Montalcino and Ca'Marcanda, located in the Bolgheri area).
Central to the winery's portfolio is Gaja Barbaresco, a testament to the Gaja family's devotion to the appellation and their belief that Barbaresco wines are among the best in the world. Gaja Winery stopped buying grapes from other producers in 1961 to ensure the maximum quality of its wines. Gaja Barbaresco is produced from grapes grown in 14 different vineyards in the villages of Barbaresco and Treiso.
The wine's color is dark, ruby red. The aroma is rich and complex - of ripe fruits (plums and cherries), violets, and subtle nuances of leather and tobacco. It has an elegant taste, revealing well-balanced tannins. The finish is long and complex.
