Gaja Magari Ca' Marcanda 2018, 0.75
The romantic medieval Tuscan town of Montalcino is surrounded by hills and dense forests. The soil, altitude, and varied terrain make Montalcino the ideal home for the Sangiovese grape and the region's illustrious wine, Brunello di Montalcino. There are notable parallels between Tuscan Sangiovese and Piedmontese Nebbiolo: for more than 150 years, these two indigenous grape varieties have produced some of Italy's most distinctive wines, known for their uniqueness, history, and prestige. The parish church, or "pieve," of Santa Restituta is located within the property and gives its name to the winery, which has been making wine since the 12th century. Pieve Santa Restituta produces three Brunello di Montalcino wines: Rennina, Sugerille, and Brunello di Montalcino.
Magari means, if only it were true!, an expression often used in Italian to convey desire, hope, and a vision for a bright future. The international and widely cultivated grape varieties from which Magari is made offer a fresh approach to Italian wines and opulence, appealing to a wider audience of wine lovers.
Bright and deep red color. The nose is rich, concentrated, and fresh, then develops balsamic notes and aromas of graphite, juniper, and licorice. It then transforms and becomes softer with notes of wild berries and rhubarb. The taste is sweet, dry, and voluminous, with notes of mulberry and sour cherry. Fine tannins and a long-lasting finish.
