Description

The romantic medieval town of Montalcino in Tuscany is surrounded by hills and dense forests. The soil, altitude, and varied terrain make Montalcino the ideal home for the Sangiovese grape variety and the region's renowned wine, Brunello di Montalcino. There are well-known parallels between the Tuscan Sangiovese and the Piedmontese Nebbiolo: for over 150 years, these two indigenous grape varieties have produced some of Italy's most distinctive wines, known for their uniqueness, history, and prestige. The parish church, or "pieve," of Santa Restituta is located within the property and gives its name to the winery, where wine has been made since the 12th century. Pieve Santa Restituta produces three Brunello di Montalcino wines: Rennina, Sugarille, and Brunello di Montalcino.

The proprietary name Promis was created by the Gaja family to encapsulate dedication, anticipation, realization, and hope. A guarantee of quality and the reward for diligence and excellence. The grapes grow on "terre brune" (rich, dark soils), which consist mainly of clay, ideal for the varieties grown there – Merlot 55%, Syrah 35%, and Sangiovese 10%. 12 months of aging in oak barrels.
