Description
There is hardly any other vineyard that has shaped the perception of Wachau as a serious, high-quality wine region as strongly as that of the Knoll family. Many generations of this family have dedicated their lives to growing wine: the first glass bottles were filled with Knoll wine in the 1950s, and perhaps the most famous wine label in Austria – the baroque image of the family of Saint Urban – first adorned Knoll wine bottles in 1962.
The family cultivates wine on sixteen hectares, and the names of its terraces have become well-known among national and international wine drinkers: Kellerberg, Loibenberg, Pfaffenberg, and especially Schütt, yield the grapes for the famous Knoll Riesling and Veltliner range, which are clear, precise, rich in minerals, and structured, often revealing their full potential after years or even decades. Dense wines that show power in a compressed form, without becoming overly voluminous. Smaragd is the name of the best and most valuable wines from the Vinea Wachau winemakers.
Tasting notes: Light yellow, silvery reflections. Fine apricot note, ripe yellow apple, subtle tobacco nuances, dark minerality. Complex, juicy, firm, rich in finesse structure, salty nuances, lingers very long, peppery aftertaste, sure aging potential.
