Description

Nestled in the lesser-known western Imereti region of Georgia, Archil Guniava Winery is a family-run winery that produces truly unique wines. At Archil Guniava, they harvest their grapes from a prime 1.5-hectare plot located south of the Kvirila River. The high altitude location imparts a wonderful crisp acidity to their white wines.

Krakhuna is indigenous to Imereti and is one of the oldest white grape varieties in the world. It is often used for sparkling and still white wines – but the amber wines Archil Guniava creates (using the ancient Georgian Qvevri method) are prized by locals and international wine connoisseurs alike.

This wine sits somewhere in the middle between a white and an amber wine - 15% of the grape skins are left to ferment with the juice for 3 months. So you can find classic, fresh notes of apricots and peaches, distinct dry notes of tea leaves and raisins imparted by the Qvevri.
