The estate remained in the family over the years until the 1855 Classification, in which it was classified as a Second Growth. Austerity during the Depression and the Great War led to Ducru Beaucaillou being sold several times until it finally fell into the hands of the Borie family in 1941 in a deplorable and ruined state. The family made great efforts to renovate and expand the estate, acquiring a significant plot of land from the neighboring Château Lagrange. Their management greatly benefited the winemaking here, but it was not without its troubles – in the 1980s, cellar contamination rendered some vintages undrinkable and damaged the château's reputation. These problems are now a thing of the past, and today the name Ducru Beaucaillou is synonymous with quality. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a Saint-Julien estate, now one of the leading Super Seconds. It is owned by the Borie family and is located in the southeastern part of the Saint-Julien appellation.
