Description

As the largest independent family-owned Champagne producer, Louis Roederer ranks among the best in the region. Established in 1776, today the House is managed by seventh-generation family member Frederic Rouzaud alongside long-standing Cellar Master and Champagne legend Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon. They own a staggering 242 hectares of vineyards, many of which are in the chalk-rich Grand Cru villages, covering two-thirds of their grape needs. Roederer pioneered biodynamic farming, and by 2012, all 78 hectares of the "Cristal Estates" were farmed biodynamically. By 2021, Roederer will certify 115 hectares as organic. All grapes in Cristal and other vintages come from their own vineyards. Today, Cristal is widely recognized as the world's most awarded prestige cuvée Champagne.

In the heart of the Côte des Blancs, where Chardonnay expresses itself with such incredible finesse on the famous chalk soils, Louis Roederer selected four parcels from their vineyards in Avize Grand Crus for their Blanc de Blancs 2015. These parcels in Avize have different characteristics, and in the difficult vintage, only grapes from the south-facing slopes reached the necessary level of ripeness. This pure Chardonnay Champagne quickly became the Roederer family's favorite wine for grand occasions and is 100% bottled from grapes from their historic vineyards. Fermented at slightly lower pressure for ideal balance with the fresh acidity, 23% of the wines were fermented in oak.
