Our history dates back to 1840, when Don Felipe de la Mata, VIII Marquis de Vargas, decided to plant the first vineyards on the Hacienda Pradolagar estate. Marqués de Vargas began with a philosophy inspired by French chateaux, exclusively producing first-class Reserva and Gran Reserva wines using grapes from their own vineyards next to the winery.

The harvest is done by hand, plot by plot, with the initial selection made on site in the vineyard. We pick the grapes in 12-kilogram boxes, which go into cold storage minutes after picking, where they remain until the next day. This overnight cooling of the bunches has been shown to have a beneficial effect on the final quality of the wine. The wines age in perfect conditions in selected French oak barrels from the best coopers. They are used to produce the premium Marqués de Vargas wines, which have received the prestigious "Viñedo Singular" designation from the Rioja Regulatory Council (DOCa) and the Ministry of Agriculture, thanks to the exceptional characteristics of the vineyards. Applying only sustainable agricultural methods, we produce our Gran Reserva using grapes with the best aging potential, selected from the 52 hectares of our own vineyards, divided into 34 micro-parcels according to soil type, grape variety, and winemaking potential.

A wine officially designated as "Viñedo Singular", originally produced exclusively for consumption at the winery itself. Selección Privada is a limited production wine from selected vineyards that we produce only in the best vintages. Selección Privada is produced solely with grapes from our oldest parcels "La Victoria", "La Garnacha" and "Manolo", all declared "Viñedo Singular" by the Ministry of Agriculture thanks to the unique characteristics of the terroir.

A blend of Tempranillo (77%), Garnacha (18%), Mazuelo (5%). 25 months in new French oak barrels.

Expressive from the first taste. Tempranillo is the backbone of the wine, providing soft tannins, a silky attack, as well as elegance and finesse. Mazuelo and Garnacha harmoniously complement the blend, creating a pleasant wine with pronounced body and depth.
