Description
Martell VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale), aged in red barrels, brings a new level of craftsmanship to Martell's production. Like all other Martell cognacs, this one is aged solely in fine-grained oak barrels, which do not detract from the delicacy of Martell's clear wines. What is unique, however, is that for Martell VSOP Red Barrels, oak barrels are selected that have already been used for aging so-called eaux-de-vie (unaged fruit brandy), where the influence of tannins is even less pronounced. Known as fûts roux (red barrels) due to the reddish hue of their wood, these barrels have reached the perfect stage of maturation for both the oak and the eaux-de-vie, thus allowing for an ideally balanced exchange between the two. The eaux-de-vie not only fully express their natural fruity aromas, but they combine with subtle woody tones from the red barrels, resulting in a refined, quality Cognac that is an authentic expression of the iconic Martell style.
