Description
The Fedora winery is located in the part of the Vipava Valley called "Vipavska Brda," where the Vipava Valley and the Karst meet: a unique climate with abundant sunshine during the day, remarkable temperature fluctuations between night and day, and Bora winds that sweep through the vineyards. Fedora is a family affair, starting with Valter's great-grandfather, the current owner, who cultivated vineyards in Dolanci since the late 19th century, and continuing through his grandfather and father, interrupted only by the nationalization of vineyards after World War II, which forced him, like everyone else, to deliver grapes to the state cooperative. Now Valter, together with his family, after several years of experimentation, decided to return to Dolanci from Ljubljana and no longer deliver grapes to the local cooperative. They immediately dedicated themselves to restoring old vineyards and varieties and planting new ones. The choice fell on local varieties: Ribolla, Zelen, Pinela, Refosco, Picolit, Vitovska, and many, many other local varieties today make up almost the entire production, with a small amount of Chardonnay remaining from the time when international vineyards predominated. Biodynamic principles guide vineyard work and minimal intervention in the cellar to produce exceptionally fresh, saline, and varietal wines.
Pinela is the queen of the Vipava Valley. This one is medium-bodied. It pairs wonderfully with smoked fish. Pinela is a local variety that can only be tasted on rare occasions. It grows only in the upper part of the Vipava River valley in very limited quantities and was mentioned as early as 1324.
Straw yellow color with delicate greenish hues. It possesses a unique, recognizable, and delicate bouquet with floral and fruity characteristics. The aroma is youthful and fruity, emphasized by notes of apple, melon, kiwi, and pineapple. The taste is full, very pleasant, and harmonious.
