Description
The Wittmann family has been cultivating grapes and producing wine in the small village of Westhofen in Rheinhessen since 1663. Today, the estate cultivates 62 acres of vineyards in the rolling limestone hills located in the southern part of the region, just west of the Rhine River Valley. They pioneered the development of the dense, well-balanced style of dry wines for which the region has become known.
The Aulerde vineyard is south-facing, sloping towards the village, and is a particularly favored spot for viticulture. Aulerde is a very old vineyard, first mentioned in records in 1380. The vines in this location are almost 70 years old.
VDP Grosse Lage is the denomination for the best German vineyards, precisely defined by parcel. Unique wines with a special expression of specific character are born here.
Color: Bright yellow.
Aroma: Spicy herbal aromas, followed by apple peel, lemon balm, and sweet apricot.
Taste: Well-defined structure, led by bright acidity, followed by good concentration on the mid-palate, juicy, and with a hint of minerality.
