Description

Achleiten is a legendary vineyard in Wachau in the small village of Weissenkirchen. It is known for wines with an inimitable mineral character. The dry stone walls from the 12th century, located on steep slopes with silicate-rich soil, dominate the landscape of this vineyard. In the upper terraces, gneiss is the predominant subsoil, while dark schistose amphibolites prevail in the lower terraces. It is one of the best vineyards in Austria. "Smaragd" is a category in the region denoting complex, full-bodied, and mineral wines with great aging potential.
