Sancerre Grande Cuvée Comte Lafond, 0.75
Description
Count Lafond is the ancestor of Baron Patrick de Ladoucette and was the first to purchase vineyards in the Loire in the 18th century. Count Lafond had huge ambitions for expanding winemaking and was originally from Burgundy, but soon acquired vineyards in Sancerre. Baron Patrick de Ladoucette continues this passion and development.
The vines are over 30 years old, and the subsoil is made up of a combination of clay, limestone, and silica.
Grande Cuvée is a Sauvignon Blanc and comes from the best vineyards in Sancerre, with soils rich in flint and limestone. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, and fermentation and aging take place in stainless steel tanks. The wine spends a long time on the lees with frequent bâtonnage, which gives it a rich texture and impressive complexity. It is full-bodied, creamy, yet juicy and fresh – ideal for enjoying now or for cellaring for up to five years, as it ages beautifully.
On the nose, the wine is filled with citrus aromas such as lemon, citron, and bergamot, along with white peach. Gradually, notes of freshly cut grass, gooseberry, raw almond, and wet stone emerge.
On the palate, it is elegant, full-bodied, and distinguished by vibrant acidity. Green notes blend with citrus fruits and hints of brioche, all against a backdrop of pronounced minerality.
Sancerre Grande Cuvée is a particularly prestigious Sauvignon Blanc from Domaine Baron de Ladoucette, one of the appellation's most important and historic producers.
