Description
The Tenuta Tignanello estate is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, on the gently rolling hillsides between the Greve and Pesa river valleys. It spans an area of 319 hectares (788 acres), of which approximately 130 (321 acres) are dedicated to vineyards.
Two of the estate's most significant vineyards are situated on the same hillside – Tignanello and Solaia, on soils originating from marine marls of the Pliocene period, rich in limestone and schist. The vineyards benefit from warm daytime temperatures and cooler evenings throughout the growing season.
The estate's two characteristic wines – Solaia and Tignanello – are produced from these vineyards and have been described by the international press as "some of the most influential wines in the history of Italian viticulture."
The 2012 vintage has an intense ruby-red hue and a moderate nose, revealing notes of cooked black fruits, mint, vanilla, damp earth, and a hint of minerality. The wine is dry, characterized by immense concentration and robust, firm tannins.
