The Glenlivet 12 YO, 0.7
The Glenlivet 12
Glenlivet is a special place in Speyside. Translated from Celtic, the name means "valley of the smooth-flowing one". Those who named it such probably had in mind the River Livet, which comes from high up, from the so-called Pillar Hill, then winds its way down and joins the Avon. But something far more desirable flowed here - whisky.
In the early 19th century, when exorbitant taxes led to illegal distillation, the rocky peaks and steep gorges provided perfect cover for smugglers seeking to hide from the authorities.
If you could ask them, they would probably tell you the risk was worth it. The whisky distilled here was unsurpassed. The whisky from Glenlivet was even mentioned by name by King George IV during one of his visits to Scotland in 1822. Most people were shocked that a monarch would ask for an illegal drink. But a local man named George Smith was not among them. He saw an opportunity in this.
The Glenlivet 12 years old is one of the most popular single malt whiskies in the world. It is distinguished by a soft balance between summer fruits and floral notes of spring flowers.
