To create this complex expression, The Glenlivet's Master Distiller Alan Winchester has a choice of many quality casks made from American and European oak, for first and second filling, and all these components of the process have their significance. European Oak adds spicy notes and brings additional complexity. The first filling in American oak casks adds the aroma of tropical fruits.

It all began with The Glenlivet distillery, which produces malt whisky. It is the oldest legal distillery in the parish of Glenlivet, Speyside, Scotland. It was founded in 1824 and has been operating almost continuously ever since.
