In the 17th century, a young Spanish noblewoman was forced to flee to Jamaica, leaving all her possessions behind. During the escape, her brave maid managed to save one of the family's most valuable possessions - a small jewelry box containing a pair of black pearl earrings and an old manuscript with a mysterious recipe for making a liqueur. The recipe was named after the brave woman - Tia Maria.
For many years, the recipe remained in the shadows. But in the 1950s, Dr. Kenneth Leigh Evans rediscovered it and began to produce and sell this liqueur.
From that day on, Tia Maria has become a beloved addition for coffee cocktail lovers around the world and was even used in the very first Espresso Martini recipe over 40 years ago.
