Additional Information

Known since Roman times and cultivated in the region for over 1000 years, Furmint is the oldest variety at the "Verus" winery and accounts for 1/5 of all their vineyards. The Slovenian name for the variety is "Šipon" and it originates from the time of the Illyrian Provinces. At that time, Napoleon's soldiers exclaimed "C'est si bon" (translated from French: "It's so good") after drinking wine, which the local people interpreted as "Šipon."
The buds of this variety grow early, but ripen late. Furmint is known for its long growing season, which is a prerequisite for excellent quality potential. The main challenge in cultivating it is to maintain proper vine load through "green harvesting."
