Markovitis Winery is located in the geographical region of Macedonia, near the village of Pola Nera. There, the Markovitis family has been producing legendary Xinomavro wines since 1972. Xinomavro is a red wine variety with great aging potential and is considered one of the noblest varieties in Europe. The winery was built among 12 hectares of vineyards in an area at the foot of Mount Vermio (2052 m), where winters are wet and cold, and summers are hot and dry. Markovitis Winery is entirely dedicated to the Xinomavro variety and to the production of high-quality wines for aging, typical of the potential of the Naoussa region. The region benefits from the presence of clayey soils, which are so compact that they hinder the plant's above-ground growth and force it to develop its root system deeper. Additionally, reducing the quantity harvested in August leads to lower yields and grapes with a highly concentrated aroma and taste.
