The Zweigelt grape is a cross between Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent. It was created in 1922 by Dr. Zweigelt, whose name it still bears today. It is produced in many different styles – from elegant, young wines with a delicate cherry aroma to complex, spicy wines, often aged in oak barrels.
Terroir: The grapes for this wine come from the south-facing plots of Ried Neusatz at an altitude of between 180 and 200 m. Here they collect enough sunlight to ensure the full ripening of the aromas and tannins.
Classification:
The 275-hectare area of Vorderberg is predominantly covered by calcareous chernozem, which has a high clay content. Zweigelt thrives exceptionally well on its northern and eastern slopes. Kolvenz Winery owns 8.73 hectares of Vorderberg land, of which only 0.46 hectares are used for viticulture.
The vines are located on east-facing slopes at an altitude of 180 to 210 m. Dry farming is used.
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected.
Aged for six months in large and small barrels.
