Chateau Copsa
Chateau Copsa has blossomed in the heart of the Rose Valley. The winery draws knowledge and inspiration from the lands of the ancient Thracians, who believed in its divine origin. They celebrated the power of the elixir with mystical rituals and wild feasts in honor of the god Dionysus. Meanwhile, they became some of the best wine masters in Europe - a legacy carried through the centuries to this day.
Charged by this rich past, today we blend ancient legends and traditions with modern technologies.
Chateau Copsa is one of the few family wineries where we take the entire process - from grape to bottle - into our own hands. This allows us to personally monitor every moment of its development and ensure that it lives and reveals even more interesting and deep notes of its character, even when sealed in glass. That's why, in 2005, we built a modern winemaking facility with its own laboratory in the town of Klisura, just a few kilometers from our vineyards. And to ensure the proper storage of our production, in 2008,
we erected the majestic Chateau Copsa. Built according to the canons of medieval architecture, we integrated our cellar into its stone foundations, and there, in French, American, and Bulgarian oak barrels, our best selections mature.
The vineyards of Chateau Copsa
Chateau Copsa's own vineyards span 50 hectares, nestled in the heart of the Rose Valley. This wine micro-region, sheltered between the southern slopes of the Balkan Mountains and Sredna Gora, is exceptionally favorable for growing high-quality white wine varieties. The intense aromas from the rose fields and lavender fields, the constant movement of air masses, and the mild climate, ensured by the two mountains surrounding the valley, all contribute to the unique terroir of the region.
The terroir of Chateau Copsa
The soils are cinnamon forest with limestone and gravel on the surface, which acts as a natural drainage. Annual rainfall is significantly higher than the average for Bulgaria, ensuring constant soil moisture throughout the year. In addition, the naturally cool mountain air of the region helps to cool the fruit and achieve a high concentration of aromas.
The climate of Chateau Copsa
The Rose Valley region is extremely favorable for growing white grape varieties – the emblematic local Red Misket, Muscat Ottonel, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, which make up 80% of our vineyards. The red grape varieties we grow are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Due to the cooler mountain climate, they ripen significantly later and carry their unique terroir characteristics, which makes them distinctive.
Chateau Copsa is a place where we welcome and share our wine with our friends and guests. And because their number is constantly growing, in 2017 we added Maison Copsa, a boutique art hotel and restaurant. We turned them into an alternative and discreet oasis for city dwellers, where, amidst the beauty of the Rose Valley, they can indulge in the slow pace of the chateau and forget about the world outside its borders... Here they can spend their time in contemplation, dreams, sweet conversations with friends under the stars of the night sky or in plans for more small getaways. Of course, in the fresh and irresistible company of Chateau Copsa's wine.
